Dangers of Sleep Apnea That You Should Know

Snoring seems to be so common that most people does not take it as a potential threat to health. This in itself post the greatest health threat to the person who’s snoring.

Generally snoring is caused by obstruction to the air passage way when you sleep. The body could not breathe properly. At one point when the oxygen level is low, the brain will trigger the body to breathe, that’s why some people actually gasp just to restore the breathing.

So what’s the big deal with snoring?

It’s not the sound (although this can be very disturbing to a partner), rather it is the effect on the person. Snoring can be a sign of those who have sleep apnea. Notice that this doesn’t mean all snorers have sleep apnea nor all those with sleep apnea are snorers.

However in most cases it is the case. Apnea means pauses in breathing. This is a sleep disorder where the person’s sleep is constantly disrupted because of breathing disruption. As a result, the patient cannot get into deep sleep which is needed for the body to restore common functionality and to properly rest.

Listed below are some of the common dangers of sleep apnea:

Constant feeling of fatigue as the body has not fully rested.
Feeling of agitation and mood swing. This is a result of not having enough rest.
Unable to concentrate and fully focus on what is on hand.
Feeling sleepy during the day – this is a major concern especially if your profession involves activities which need high level of alertness, like in working in construction site or even driving trucks etc. Beware, this is one cause which may be a danger to you and others.
Increase risk of heart problem.

Depending on the “intensity” of sleep apnea that you are having, appropriate treatment can be taken to help you with it.
